Yup that’s what I was saying. Sorry I was not clear. Google chrome also uses webkit and manny others. It’s quickly becoming the industry standard for web rendering.

One thing that I’m not sure will go over well is the use of multi-touch in this phone. Apple holds patents for this tech and it’s not by any means open source.

If it is a open source standard how is it taken from apple ? I think I am misunderstanding you but, doesnt open source means someone else developed for others to use ?? /shrug

I disagree I was a heavy pda user palm andspring then back to palm IF ANYTHING the entire iphone/itouch idea was designed around pda’s, the most popular pda devices out there at the time apple was developing the iphone was handspring/palm. do a search on the devices and tell me the interface for itouch/iphone doesnt resemble the layout oh yeah don’t forget about the touch screens either. So to me the palm pre is a natural evoluion of the pda/smart phones they sold before.

I don’t think it would be hard to implement, yet, a vertical keyboard is better than all soft keyboard.

Drummerboy7stix March 21, 2009 at 6:58 am

what were they laughing at 4:30 lmao???? what was the link about?

dgmessenger March 23, 2009 at 10:32 am

Since there is no soft keyboard, while in landscape mode, your dead.

Actually that would be a bad idea. The competition between them keeps bringing innovation, without it they have no incentive to further develop since customers are force to take from a single producer. For instance in Canada, 4 super large companies control the entire wireless network and it is extremely expensive. AT&T try coming in and lasted a month before one of the companies bought over there division.

new windows and new palm uses a lot from apple ideas….again…

realfolkblues12 April 3, 2009 at 7:33 pm

you mean webkit. but yes they did take it from apple. however it’s an open source standard.

sn0wb0ardhock3y April 5, 2009 at 11:21 pm

its basically an iphone idk how they can copy so many features

Sampsonen April 7, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Makes n97 and 5800 look a bag of garbage.

jorgipogi April 11, 2009 at 1:49 am

They using the same iweb library that iPhone uses in their web browser. It is the reason for the pitching and finger touch likeness.

haynakaw999 April 13, 2009 at 7:56 am

I dont think they own the multi-touch technology itself, but rather the applications like pinch and other stuff.

desrosiers13 April 16, 2009 at 7:12 am

that would be great to let technologies unite throughout multiple companies. although bad for business. competition is obviously very real in the world and its to bad things thats that the need for “the one step ahead of the rest” is one of the barriers keeping great possibilities at bay.
